1 Oct 1875, District of Columbia: Mrs. Pollard sued Lyon for slander, the latter having stated publicly that "I saw her in bed with Captain Denty", and on the same day, "I looked over the transom light and saw Mrs. Pollard in bed with Captain Denty".  [altlaw.org]

Denty, John R. Junior

26 Jun 1900 Census, Shouse, Las Animas County, CO (Precinct 41): Farm laborer John R. Denty 24, TN MS MS, born Dec 1875, unemployed 7 months during the year.  Many people went to the high, arid country for their health, "for the air", during these years, especially those with tuberculosis.  John was no doubt in Colorado for the same reason.    Did he die in Colorado?  Did the family not find out about his death until after he had been buried?  [ED 58, Sheet 9B]
